Donations
As stated in its bylaws, the Mission of the Raleigh Civil War Round Table is three-fold:
- to study the history of the American Civil War,
- to stimulate interest and promote education in a broad range of topics related to that war, and
- to aid in the preservation and enhancement of its battlefields, cemeteries, relics, and other historic sites and landmarks.
Funds from dues, donations, and other fundraising endeavors are important to support our speakers, programs and projects.
As to projects, our most recent and most ambitious project has been the donation of $8,500 to the NC Museum of History for conservation of a NC state flag which belonged to 30th NC Infantry. Conservation has been completed and the flag returned to the Museum for display in rotation with other historic flags. An “unveiling” program was presented by Charlie Knight, NC Museum of History Curator of Military History, at our August 2021 monthly meeting, our first in-person meeting in 18 months. This meeting also initiated simultaneous Zoom session recording, with the resulting videos being archived elsewhere on this website. As of the Sept. 2024 meeting, Zoom sessions are no longer conducted, although the meetings continued to be video recorded and archived.
Other projects have included donations for the USCT memorial in Wilmington, for acquisition of Civil War documents for NC Library and Archives, for acquisition of land at Bennett Place, for restoration of vandalism at Oakwood Cemetery, and to American Battlefield Trust for acquisition of land and a plaque at Bentonville Battlefield in honor of Civil War historian Ed Bearss.
If you would like to make a donation to the Raleigh CWRT, a 501(c)(3) "tax exempt organization", in addition to helping support the Raleigh CWRT in its projects, field trips, and booking of speakers, your donation may also be tax-deductable.
To donate, make a check payable to "Raleigh CWRT" and mail it to Griff Bartlett, Treasurer, 908 Kinsdale Drive, Raleigh, NC 27615-1117. We thank you for your support.
